Electronic Résumés

Many recruiting firms and corporations are storing résumés electronically so that they are easier to search and retrieve. This means that you need to put your résumé into an electronic format or, at the very least, into a format that is readily scannable. It also means that where you had to previously accent action verbs (i.e. implemented, directed, etc.), now you need to accent nouns (i.e. industry keywords such as Microsoft Office, telecommunications, etc.).

Consider producing 2 versions of your résumé: a "readable" version that looks good visually and a "scannable" version that employs the following rules:

Use a 10-14 point sans serif font
Left justify the entire document
Avoid tabs
Avoid hard returns as much as possible
Avoid boldface, italics, underlining, and shading
Avoid horizontal & vertical lines
